UTC IV – Coverage

A picture is worth a thousands words: have a look at the brothers Cramer above and there is no denying these guys are having a good time. And they were not the only ones. Uthden Troll Cup IV truly was a blast!
Trying to summarise what 150 people from 16 different countries were doing during 3 days over 7 different events is not an easy task. Luckily there is so much (live) coverage already made during the weekend. If you like to scroll pages just have a look in our Facebook Group here. And if you’re more into statistics, numbers, deck pictures then you better go to the Statistics page of our website.
In this coverage we will start with an impression from what our photographer Thomas van den Berg did. He made beautiful live action pictures and did a great job writing live coverage as if he was reporting a Pro Tours. Thumbs up for Thomas!
Here’s some examples of his coverage (click the link to see the whole FB-message):

Urza’s Saga Rochester Draft: the opening of old boxes and packs makes everybody smile 😉

And then there’s also the work of Dyan de Rochemont. Yes we have 2 photographers 🙂 Besides providing equipment for the live stream and doing his share of commenting, Dyan did some great portrait photography during the weekend that’s definitely worth checking out. Take these 2 pictures from Jeff Laubenstein and Wilfred the Tankschnitzel for example. It’s as if he captured their heart and soul, magnificent!

Community
The great thing about the Old School and PreModern scene is that it truly has an outstanding community. Before, during and after the Uthden Troll Cup the Community was superb. A lot of you shared your experiences with some (pre-fun) messages, photos and reports about the experience afterwards.
But a few things really stood out. The first is the effort participants and online followers did with raising money for the Charity Auction. We raised € 5500,- retail value in games (pictures here) for children living in poverty via Stichting Rijk voor Arm. But not only did we raise a lot of money as a community, we also collected and donated items that went up for auction. And several professional artists and upcoming artist especially made art for the Charity Auction. So it truly was a charity that was made possible by community in the first place.
The second thing that really made us smile was the passion and effort done in making so many Troll Alters for the raffle. So fun to see what you all came up with. And the alter table wasn’t only used by participants also some visiting moms and kids were happily taking advantage of the equipment they found on the table in the artist room. The best looking alters were given away as prizes and at the end Flippi gave us a great tip suggesting we sell the remainging ones all back to you again. A great way of donating yet even more money for charity and an opportunity to take a nice memory home for the participants.
Unfortunately we couldn’t find that many pictures of all the beautiful alters made by the community, but I think this gallery of pictures from items you, the community, made for the Uthden Troll Cup IV gives a good impression anyway.

And then there was this truly sad story of Joen Erik who’s bag got stolen in the train on the way back to Schiphol.
What looked to be a bitter end to such a great weekend, turned out to be the start of another amazing community effort. Within 24h the community as a whole did everything that was in their powers to help Joen Erik get his collection back. No, we did not find his collection back, but we sure gave Joen Erik a great head start in getting almost his entire lost collection back in cards. Hats off to you, the true winners of the Uthden Troll Cup, the Community
Cheers to you all!!!
